Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo is committed to becoming a leader in wildlife conservation and research. Point32 worked with the Zoo to evaluate an off-site breeding facility and research center aimed at preserving and protecting threatened and endangered animals. Currently, only a handful of the 120 accredited zoos and aquariums in North America have off-site facilities devoted to research. In the future, the off-site facility will enable Woodland Park Zoo to expand beyond the confines of its 92-acre site in Seattle, providing adequate space to maintain sufficient breeding populations, to conduct research, and to provide geriatric care for older animals.
